If you’re like most people, you have a busy daily routine with a long list of to do’s and several roles to fulfill everyday. Where do your dreams or goals fit in?
When I ask my coaching clients what gets in the way of making the change they want most, two of the most common answers are “I don’t have time” and “I don’t know what I want”.
If you want to connect with your dreams and start living your possibilities try these 3 steps:
1. Be intentional about your dreams and goals – You get to choose how you prioritize your time. Over the next 3 to 4 days observe how you are spending your time. No judgement, just notice your own habits. How much time do you spend with your phone or tablet in your hand? How many hours do you spend working? sleeping? moving your body? taking care of your family?
With an awareness of how you spend your day, choose 30-60 minutes tomorrow that are just for you. No work, no technology, no one else… Just you and a notebook. Take this time to connect with your thoughts and dreams, let your imagination kick in. Don’t worry if your mind wanders back to your to-do list, just nudge it back. If this is a new experience, show yourself patience, it’s ok to be a beginner.
2. Claim your dreams – If you’re ready to share your dreams with the world go for it, shout your dreams from the mountain top. if you’re not there yet, start with writing them down. There is power in seeing your words, your dreams written down in front of you. Try writing down your dreams as if you are already living them. For example a dream could be to Live in your dream home. When you write it down it could look like this “ We live in our dream home with a view”.
3. Take action, I know it won’t be easy – Start with one dream, if you are like me I have a pretty good list of dreams and it can feel pretty overwhelming to work on all your dreams at the same time. Once you’ve picked your first dream, know that you don’t have to figure it all out before you take action. Look at your dream/goal and reflect on your current day or week and ask yourself where do I need to make space for my dream? Do I need to create time in my schedule? Do I need to create physical space? Or do I need to focus on creating space for a new habit that will support my dream?
Then take a step, and another, then maybe a jump towards living your dream.
